At North Texas Ceramic Coatings & Detailing of DFW, owner John “Cleveland” Booth began working in automotive refinishing in 1992 and became
ASE certified in automotive refinishing
in 1994. That means our experience with automotive paint started decades before today’s protection products became commonplace.
But experience doesn’t mean treating today’s paint like it’s still 1995. Modern automotive clearcoats are very different from many of the finishes used in the 1990s and early 2000s. Paint chemistry, application processes, film builds and clearcoat characteristics have continued to evolve — and different manufacturers can use finishes that respond very differently to polishing.
Some modern clearcoats can be extremely sensitive, while others can be considerably harder to correct. That’s why paint correction isn’t about grabbing a buffer, choosing an aggressive compound and hoping for the best. The condition and behavior of the clearcoat determine the process.
That understanding matters before any long-term protection is applied, because the finished result can only be as good as the surface underneath it. Decades of experience combined with modern products, equipment and techniques allow us to approach today’s clearcoats the way they should be approached today, not the way they were 30 years ago.

Does a new car need polishing first?
